How to Write a Great ICP for Autopilot

Last updated September 5, 2025

Ciro Autopilot is designed to understand your Ideal Customer Profile (ICP). A clear, specific ICP = better targeting, more qualified leads, more booked meetings.

What is an ICP?

ICP stands for Ideal Customer Profile. It’s a detailed description of the person your product or service is best suited for. In Ciro, your ICP is the foundation of every search. It helps our AI know who to find, rank, and prioritize — so you don’t waste time on leads that aren't a fit.

A Simple Template You Can Use

💡

"We’re looking for [job titles] at [company types], in [industry/vertical], with [team size, tech stack, or funding stage]."

This structure helps Ciro Autopilot pick up on key: (1) people-level characteristics (2) company-level attributes (3) buying signals and key pain points

📌 Strong vs Weak ICP Examples

Strong:

"Heads of RevOps or Sales Enablement at B2B SaaS companies with 50–500 employees."

This ICP is strong because it clearly includes:

  • Precise job titles — “Heads of RevOps” and “Sales Enablement” are common, searchable titles in LinkedIn and company org charts. Ciro can reliably find these people across companies
  • Clear company type — “B2B SaaS” is a well-defined vertical. Even though it's not a filter commonly found in sales tools, Autopilot is excellent at inferring if a company is B2B SaaS, thanks to its training
  • Defined size range → “50–500 employees” is a healthy range that won't include small startups or Fortune 500s

Weak:

"Sales at large companies"

While this can work, you’ll likely get extremely broad results and struggle to prioritize or personalize your eventual outreach.

Why it doesn’t work:

  • Broad job titles — sales is a big category, and often has several functions and levels of seniority; a search like this would return people from across the organization (from sales reps, to sales operations, to account managers, to sales leaders)
  • Broad company definition — a "large company" is relative; it can mean a 500 person company, or a 50,000 person company (producing vastly different results)

🧠 Pro Tips

  • Be specific about roles — “Sales Enablement” is better than “Sales”
  • Mention buying triggers — “Hiring reps” or “just raised a round”
  • Avoid buzzwords — stick to plain English, no need to keyword-stuff
  • Keep it to one ICP — if you find yourself bundling titles and industries, use Ciro to run a separate (new) search in parallel!

💬 Still Unsure?

If you're unsure how to phrase it, just describe your best customers in your own words — the way you would explain it to a coworker — and Ciro will interpret it intelligently and match against 500M+ profiles.
